March is here

male hooded merganser swimming in a small tidal pool that I took when I was leaving the beach the other day after taking photos of the owls. Beautiful, isn't he?

This winter has been a very cold and snowy one, but today is March first and I know we are getting more snow on Monday with predictions of anywhere from 4-8 inches. My cousin told me that the Farmer's Almanac predicts several more snow storms are yet to come. On the bright side, the days are getting longer.

I've noticed the buds on the trees are starting to swell. I need to go out and check the pussy willow bush in the back yard to see if it doing anything. I never think about it until it is too late.

I don't know what my plans are for this weekend. I want to try out my new camera. I have 30 days if I don't like it the camera can be returned.

My bird feeders continue to have lots of bird activity. The squirrels are still a nuisance as are the neighbors chickens. Last night I noticed a different cat on my kitchen steps that I haven't seen before. Oh no! I hope he belongs to someone. I am feeding 4 outdoor strays and 6 indoor kitties. I can't save them all. I wish people would get their pets neutered or spayed.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Great duck photo. It's snowing (over 100 inches this season); I'm beginning to feel like spring will never come. and record breaking cold in Michigan this morning

Amen to spaying. People don't think about the consequences of not doing that. We have Merganser ducks at out bay place. They are beautiful! Do you use a telephoto lens?

pS...Elaine try bringing a branch or two of swelling buds indoors for a vase with water. They may bring spring early to the inside of your house. :)
