Potion Class in Session Shadowbox

This month's inspiration project on AAWA we were going to try something different.  The month's theme is "Halloween" and we need to create a project using any discarded product packaging. (Some examples are: empty ribbon spool, package from tape refill or red-line tape, cardboard backing from just about any product. We were to use our imaginations and see what unique ideas we could come up with. I had a few ideas buzzing around in my head. I spied a Sardine box on top of the microwave. Tom loves sardines, and he has the unopened can and I took the box that the can was in.

I carefully took the box apart and traced around the flattened box onto the back of scrapbook paper.

Then I used a ruler and embossing stylus to mark the folded lines on my paper.

I then re glued my sardine box together and fitted my scrapbook paper onto the box and glued the black patterned paper to the sardine box. I decided to glue my black paper to the original box so it would be more sturdy.

Here is where I would do things differently if I make another shadow box. I glued a chipboard frame to the box, and then started cutting my box open in the center. Next time I would mark where I wanted to make the opening, cut the center out, and then glue down my frame. Live and learn.
I bought this package of assorted frames in Michael's on clearance after Halloween last year. I chose to use one of the orange rectangle frames. I think I saw these same frames in the craft stores again this year, either at Joanns or Michaels. I also like the round frame that was also in the package, and have an idea in mind for a project to use it on.
supplies I used..Glue zots, glue stick, sticker maker xyron, Creative Memories small cutting board, Tim Holtz clear ruler, embossing stylus, assorted scrapbook paper and cardstock, die cut and stickers.
I cut a piece of spider web scrapbook paper to fit inside of the center of the box. Unfortunately, in the photo you can't see the spider webs, as it only looks black. Next time I would probably paint the sides of inside box.
 I then used glue dots to attach the witch brewing in her kettle (that was in a package of die cuts that I bought on sale after Halloween last year) I attached the witch for the inside front of the box with glue dots. I then glued Jolee embellishments ( broom and witches shoes) to the outside of the frame. Cut out Potion Class in Session from a piece of Halloween scrapbook paper, and with the sticker maker Xyron  adhered it to orange cardstock. Then cut a piece of black cardstock and attached the orange/Potion piece. Using glue dots, I attached the sign to the top of the frame. I also went around the outside of the box with orange ribbon. The box is 4 1/2 H x 3 1/2 W x 1 inch.
This project was great fun. Recently I have had more crafting time than I've had in a good long time.
